Large companies use psychology effectively
to influence us in the way we spend our money, successful sports
teams use it to help individual sports people to maximise their
performance, run faster, overcome nerves, etc.
Clinical psychologists and Cognitive Behavioural Therapists are professionals with specialist knowledge of
psychology which they use to help people with emotional problems.
Most of us are affected by emotional problems at some point, particularly
when life’s ups and downs have put us under strain. We may
feel anxious or low and this can have an effect on our day to day
lives, for example, influencing our thoughts and behaviours, our
relationships with others, or our performance at work. Some of the
consequences of this may be;
- Panic
- Low self esteem
- Phobias
- Fears
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Post traumatic stress
- Eating problems
- Obsessions
- Addictions
- Repeating problem patterns in life
Many of us know that our difficulties have only recently begun,
but it is also very common to feel that the same problems have been
around for a lot longer or perhaps for most of life. Some difficulties
can affect almost every aspect of life, whilst others may be relatively
minor and only interfere with a small part of it.
